アイルランド・ダブリン出身。2014年多摩美術大学大学院博士課程修了、博士号取得。スザンヌ・ムーニーは、没個性化する都市空間の街並みを前に、ヨーロッパ絵画のロマンティシズムを重ねながら、画家のように、写真を撮る。絵画の中で理想化された自然と人工の宥和、光と影の計算されたグラデーションが、写真を撮るという行為に代替される。そこでは、絵画特有の筆触の重要さは薄れ、むしろ現実にある場所のロマンティシズムが、祖国性を伴った沈黙のピクセルとして、独立した場所感覚を作品に浮上させる。

Suzanne Mooney photographs like a painter, layering European Romantic painting aesthetics over the homogenized urban landscapes. The idealized reconciliation of nature and artificiality in painting, and its calculated gradation of light and shadow, are substituted by the act of photography. The importance of brushwork fades, and instead the romanticism of real places emerges as silent pixels with a sense of homeland, surfacing an independent sense of place in her works.
